This morning I woke up in his bed, with this on the table next to me: coffee, sugar, and a bit of food. He knew that I would be taking a couple conference calls first thing in the morning from his place. So he let me sleep a bit longer, made my coffee, and fed my dog. He didn’t ask; he just did it. What’s funny is, he doesn’t even drink coffee. And doesn’t even really like the smell of it. But it was one thing he could do to make my morning easier, and so he did it.

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: Dominants and submissives both serve. They may take different approaches, but both partners focus on each other’s needs and the needs of the relationship. When I saw this on the table, I knew he woke up thinking about my needs. I knew I mattered to him. I knew he really thought through what would help me most, not just what he would want done for him. I felt protected and nurtured. Acts of service like this mean I can focus more on his wants and needs and how I can serve him, which in turn gives him more space to think about me. A positive loop of service.

This is dominance, too.
